The Process of Shell Mold Casting

2024-08-15

The process of Shell Mold Casting generally includes the following steps:

Mold making: First, make a metal mold cavity with the shape consistent with the required casting.

Preheating and oiling: Preheat the mold cavity to 175°C~370°C and apply lubricant to facilitate subsequent demolding.

Sand coating and curing: Place the preheated mold cavity in the casting box and pour the sand-resin mixture. The mixture partially solidifies on the surface of the mold cavity to form a thin shell. Subsequently, the entire device is placed in an oven to completely solidify the thin shell.

Demolding and assembly: Remove the solidified thin shell from the mold cavity and assemble it into a complete mold as required.

Pouring and cooling: Pour the molten metal into the mold, and after the metal cools and solidifies, open the mold to remove the casting.

Cleaning and post-processing: Clean the casting and perform necessary post-processing, such as removing the gate and grinding.

Application field

Shell Mold Casting is widely used in various mechanical manufacturing fields due to its high precision and low cost. Especially for castings that require high precision and complex shapes, such as engine blocks, cylinder heads, gearbox parts, etc., Shell Mold Casting shows great advantages.
