Shell mold casting is a casting process that uses a mixture of high-strength thermosetting material silica sand or zircon sand and resin to form a thin shell mold and pour it.
Shell mold casting mainly has the following advantages:
1.Low equipment investment and small floor space. Shell mold casting requires less equipment and space than traditional casting methods.
2.Convenient production and high production efficiency. The process flow of shell mold casting is relatively simple and can improve production efficiency.
3.Castings are of good quality. Castings produced by shell mold casting have high surface finish, high dimensional accuracy and good material properties.
4.Little environmental pollution. The shell mold casting production site has less dust, less noise, and less pollution to the environment.
5.Suitable for castings with complex shapes. Shell mold casting is particularly suitable for the production of castings of various alloys with large batches, high dimensional accuracy requirements, thin walls and complex shapes.
However, shell mold casting also has some disadvantages:
1.The cost is higher. The resin used in shell mold casting is expensive and the template must be precisely machined, which results in higher costs.
2.Produce pungent odor. Pungent odor may be produced during pouring, which limits the promotion and application of shell mold casting to a certain extent.
3.High technical requirements. Shell mold casting has high requirements on operating technology and environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity and dust removal.
In addition, shell mold casting may not be as air-permeable as some other casting methods, potentially resulting in inconsistent casting quality or increased scrap rates.
